5 out of 5 stars Just a very good tv   July 19, 2010
mike sherry (London)
Great tv had it since April and enjoyed it from day one. When my rear projection toshiba had it's bulb die I was going to get it replaced as the tv had been a real pleasure to own and ues for many years, but I deceided to replace it with the LG plasma and I am very pleased I did. It has very thing you need hdmi, scart, rgb, co-ax and built in free view just works fine.I am no expert but all the adjustments on the remote control has the picture just fine.I use dvd's Virgin media tv and using rgb watch streaming vids on line.If you are considering getting a big plasma go for it you will not be disapointed.

5 out of 5 stars great TV   June 28, 2010

I got this product from one of the warehouse deals. It is absolutely brilliant, beautiful looking slim great picture.
Be careful though ,it is quite heavy.2 Scart 3 hdmi slots av3 component etc, everything.
It has an energy saving ratio. Just one thing, needs about 50 hours to settle to best settings ,for about £600.00
you cannot go wrong.

5 out of 5 stars LG Full HD 50inch Plasma   June 17, 2010

I bought this on the back of a number of reviews. I deliberated over the whole LCD vs Plasma conundrum but basically went for size over quality (or so I thought).

Firstly, this TV is massive. I'm glad I'm putting this on a stand and not on my plasterboard walls. The stand itself is a fairly flimsy affair but suitable for the job. For added safety, I've wired the TV to the wall using the supplied mounting screws & some picture wire.

The screen is shiny glass, which means it'll show reflections, so pick the location carefully before buying... our buy blinds.

The screen surround is surprisingly small which means that not only does it look the business, but also reduces the overall TV size.

The remote control is nice, feels good in the hand but a little congested. No real complaints though.

Picture quality using a good source is stunning. Vivid colours & pin-sharp images. No motion blur or edge artefacts at all. I've found with many Full HD LCDs that the picture looks a bit artificial, somehow too sharp & over-processed but on this plasma, the picture is very natural & smooth. I think the colour depth could be better, but I still need to tweak the endless picture settings. The contrast and brightness levels are very good and the Deep Black is excellent but only with a good source.

Sound is very good, sure it lacks bass, but this IS a flatscreen and it sounds a LOT better than by Samsung 32" LCD. Besides, I've got this hooked-up to a 5.1 system so this doesn't bother me.

Plenty of inputs; 3 HDMI's, 2 SCARTS etc etc A plus point is the USB for attaching a memory source. Not tried this yet & unlikely to as I'm connected to an Xbox anyway.

Screen "ghosting" is where you can temporarily see a ghost of a bright image for some time. This goes once another bright image is displayed to "wash" it out. This is noticeable on this TV but is an annoyance of ALL plasma screens so can't mark it down for this. I've avoided this to some extent by reducing the contrast for the first few hours of use. I've yet to find the screen "wash" function.

You need a good source to get any where near the best out of this TV. Old DVD's just look a bit "VHS" where this TV seems to have trouble with scene brightness & colour. New DVDs look much better. HD movies via Bluray are obviously stunning & I mean STUNNING. Avatar looked so amazing even by wife had to comment.

Somewhat annoyingly, there is a quiet "whistle/buzz" on bright scenes. This is noticeable but tends not to bother me during movies.

In summary, I'm very happy with my purchase. The picture quality is as good if not better than equivalent large/cheap LCDs. Ok so this doesn't have all the add-ons of a much pricier unit but at this price point (I got it for under £700) this is a good purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Unexpectedly good TV   May 12, 2010

I am genuinely surprised at how good this TV is, own a 48" Panasonic (Plasma) and a 37" Sharp (LCD) which are currently at higher prices for the equivalent features. Selected this because of the low price and the fact that it has a computer monitor input port, USB, and enough HDMI ports. The color quality is quite amazing and the sound volume is higher than my other two TV's. Also the quality of the sound is significantly better. Setting it up was simple, it slides onto the table stand easily and the TV is well supported. I like the very clear menus that are used for navigation and set-up. Highly recommend this TV. One wish, it would be great if it could play flash movies from the USB port.
